First Official Post! And a story...

Hello! We have decided to start blogging! This will help us keep a type of record of our lives. I hope that Ruby and Zane will someday enjoy reading all the fun we have together. If we have anyone read this beside us, great! If you have any comments, thoughts, suggestions or verbal abuse please let us know. Thank You! Story... Once upon a time we went camping on the 4th of July weekend. We camped with my sister Cassi and her family (Scott, Baylee and Deegan). Grandma Deb decided to stay at home and watch the dogs- Dewie, Milo and Snickers. We camped in the Uintahs at Soap Stone. It was lots of fun. The mosquitos got their fill of us. The kids had a great time. At one point Ruby, Bay and Zane were making snow angles in the dirt. I love this picture of Rub and Bay. Rub is pretty happy and Bay is giving her a look like- Girlfriend, you need a bath!

Well, on Sunday we decided to leave kind of early and stop at Jordanelle. Ruby really wanted to throw rocks in the lake at look at the boats. So we stopped at what we thought was a road to a boat dock. Wrong. There was just a big rock pile. We decided to park it and eat lunch. While we were making lunch the kids played on the rocks. Everyone came back, except for Zane. We called him a few times, nothin'. We then saw that an Alaskan Malamute was on his way toward Zaner. Lew yelled at Zane and took off running to go get him. We are protective, like all parents, and did not want the dog to hurt Zane. As Lew was running to get Zane a chocolate lab came tearing over a hill, barking. He was followed by a pack of 12 to 15 more large and medium sized dogs. All of them were barking. I started running down the hill as fast as I could. Lew can run faster than a freight train and got to Zane. He picked him up and held him above his shoulders. the dogs began to swarm Lew. They were just running in circles around him trying to bite him. A black lab bit him on the back of his thigh. Side note- Lew has thighs of iron, so he had to get bit really hard. A golden retriever was bitting at the back of his pants. Lew is kicking at them and trying to get them away. Lew just got his concealed carry permit about two weeks ago. He had his gun on him in the ankle holster. He was trying to reach for it, but the dogs were snapping at him and would bite Zane if he bent down. He was able to get it and shot toward the ground about 20 feet away. He didn't hit a dog, but it scared them enough to back off a bit. This all happened so fast. During this I made it closer to Lew and was chucking rocks at the pack of dogs. I probably hit Lew 8 times and the dogs once or twice. Now a girl comes strolling along from the direction the dogs came from. She still had a few dogs near her. We started yelling at her to call her dogs off. She just continued walking, not stopping her dogs at all. We were still kicking and yelling at dogs. Lew kicked a few. I punched a giant poodle in the face and pelted a cocker spaniel with three rocks. Lew shouted out a few profanities. Okay, a lot of profanities. And still the dog walker didn't help.
We eventually made it back up to the vehicles. There was only one bite on Lewis leg. We were shaking. Zane was terrified. The kids were scared seeing Lew getting attacked by vicious dogs. We calmed down and saw that the dog walker was calling 911. Lew (being a responisble gun owner) called the police to let them know he fired a shot from his gun. He went to the dog walkers van to talk to her and resolve things. She would not talk to him. She claimed that he pointed the gun at her and that we attacked her dogs! The park ranger showed up a while later. She was very, very nice. She listened to our side of the story and then went and talked to dog walker. The dog walker works for a dog walking agency. These particular dogs were from Furburbia. They are rescue dogs. The dog walker did not know if they were violent dogs or not. She did not have one on a leash! There is a law in Utah that dogs must be on a leash. She had about 18 dogs and not one was on a leash. And she is hearing impared. I do have sympathy for her. She probably has many challenges to deal with. But she should not have had that many dogs and not be able to control them. She did admit that she saw Zane and didn't call the dogs. I was infuriated to hear this. My baby could have been so hurt by these dogs and she did nothing to prevent it. The officer was wonderful. She said Lewis had every right to use his gun to protect himself and his son. We have not heard back from them if the dog has been updated on his rabies shots. Lew is healing well. So far Zane is not scared of dogs. He still gives Dewie hugs and kisses.
Here is a picture of the bite.

Ta Da! I hope we never have a story to tell like this again. The next post I have will be more positive than this one!
